Katelyn, an undergraduate majoring in Poultry Science with a pre-veterinary concentration at Mississippi State University, is actively involved in research focused on poultry health, immunology, and vaccine efficacy. Her research includes assessing interactions between live Salmonella vaccines and maternal antibody levels in newly hatched chicks, evaluating the effectiveness of Salmonella bacterin vaccines across different chicken genetic lines, and investigating the relationship between gut health and vaccine efficacy. Additional research interests include in ovo feeding strategies, chronic inflammation and autoimmune disorders, and leukocyte signaling and recruitment following vaccine administration. Following graduation, she plans to apply to veterinary school and ultimately pursue a career as a veterinarian with the goal of owning and operating her own veterinary clinic.
