Andrew Buchanan, a senior majoring in Mechanical Engineering, has been conducting research in the Advanced Multiphase Flow and Thermal Science Lab since the beginning of his junior year. Within the lab, Andrew works to understand the thermal hydraulic effects of non-condensable gases on the performance of molten salt nuclear reactors. His research includes utilizing computational fluid dynamics in Ansys Fluent to improve understanding of fluid physics and enhance reactor design. He plans to attend graduate school and pursue a career in academia.
